Kyocera ECOSYS M2540dn Review: Average at Best

We noticed that we haven’t really reviewed a lot of Kyocera product in the past. The only one we’ve ever reviewed so far was the Kyocera ECOSYS P5021cdw. So, while we’re here, why not do a Kyocera ECOSYS M2540dn review and see what they got for this mono MFP of theirs.

Following the traditional design of most MFPs, the M2540dn is quite large. It will certainly require a completely separate space for it to function which make it a bummer, but if you can spare the space for it, the M2540dn will work fine.

Thanks to its size though, the M2540dn can handle a lot of paper. Its tray can hold up to 850 pages if you decide to put the two optional extra paper feeders.

Considering that it’s a monochrome MFP, it will surely have an impressive printing or copying speed, right?

Yes, of course. In fact, one of its strongest points for this Kyocera ECOSYS M2540dn review is that it’s very fast at printing monochrome pages.

It even supports automatic duplexing too.

But back to the topic of speed, the M2540dn claimed to hold a 40ppm record for its monochrome printing, and from our testing, this claim holds true.

And since it’s a laser printer, all of the output from this printer comes out nice and crisp. There are barely any smudges and the one that we found was hardly perceptible unless you’re really looking out for it.

Ink Economy

The other strong points that we want to mention in this Kyocera ECOSYS M2540dn review is that it’s not expensive to run at all.

Its toner cartridge can yield for over 700 pages, and replacement for said cartridge isn’t nearly as expensive compared to other laser printer toners.

Scan Quality

Kyocera is of course not the front-runner when it comes to imaging. It’s no Canon, so we expected that the scan quality from it will be significantly worse. Thankfully, we’re proved wrong with its output.

While it still has problem reading through some very small texts and while its output isn’t nearly as pristine as Canon scanners or MFP, it is alright and definitely usable. You can rely confidently that the M2540dn will scan your document into something readable.

It’s also a plus that the M2540dn supports auto duplex for scanning too because as we’re all aware, duplexing manually is a pain in the butt, be it for printing or scanning.

Kyocera ECOSYS M2540dn review

Now, to conclude this Kyocera ECOSYS M2540dn review, the machine is an average MFP at best. It only prints mono color which is a bummer, but it’s fast at what it does. It’s very hard to recommend to other because unless you really, really, need a fast mono MFP, you probably shouldn’t spend your money on this.

And even then, there are many other great MFPs that can print both mono and color pages as fast if not faster than the M2540dn at this price range.
